Practical Weather Work
Why I Thank The Wind During Storm Season ; Runes and Nordic Deities Tyr and Kári
Yesterday I was scrolling through updates from my favorite atmospheric scientist. He kept mentioning wind shear preventing potential storms from developing in the Atlantic.
My immediate thought: “We better thank the wind.”
This is the practical side of the spiritual relationship I’ve developed with Norse weather deities over the past few years. Not dramatic ritual or complex ceremony - simple, direct acknowledgment of the forces already protecting us.
Here’s what I do:
I take a simple tea light candle and blow into it: “I honor you, Kári” (the Norse wind deity). Then I carve the Raidho rune - looks like an angular R - three times across the wax while singing the name. I add one Gebo rune (looks like an X) for the gift exchange principle that governs all healthy relationships.
Finally, I light it with pure gratitude for the wind shear chopping up potential storm development.
After lighting both my wind candle and my Tyr candle (for cosmic order and sky wisdom), I take a small offering outside - usually kombucha or mead. Just a tiny glass for each deity, poured onto the earth with thanks.
First video below talks about how our ancestors might have interacted with elements.
The second video demonstrates how to carve and sing rune galdr into your candle to honor Tyr and Kári.
This isn’t about controlling weather or steering storms away from my area toward someone else’s. It’s about conscious participation in the web of natural forces. It’s long-distance honoring when I can’t be out on a boat directly sensing atmospheric changes.
The results? I’ve watched this practice correlate with protection and calmer conditions more times than I can count. Not through force, but through relationship.
Sound intriguing? I’m teaching the complete method October 22nd in my live
“Tyr & Kári: Sacred Weather Work” class. You’ll learn:
How to build authentic relationships with both deities through shamanic journeying
The ethical framework that keeps weather work in proper relationship
Hands-on rune carving and galdr (sacred chanting) techniques
Simple daily practices for ongoing connection
The offering methods that make it all real
This is experiential learning - you’ll have direct encounters with these deities and leave with your own empowered tools for continued practice.
A few spots remain. The call is strengthening.
